Vegas Trip 2005 - Stops along the way: Day 3 ...
Pasadena to Palm Springs
Firstly: Both Christine and I are fine. Neither of us even felt the 4.9 earthquake centered in the area we were in today. At the time of the quake we were on the road. We did come across a rock fall blocking one lane of Highway ?74? that was probably triggered by the quake.
Secondly: We didn't get caught up in the multi hour backup of the I-10 freeway this afternoon.
We stopped by at the Shilo Inn this morning around 11AM - we weren't planning on checking in, just getting the discount coupons for the Outlets. Sadly, although they are advertising this promotion, they do not have anything to hand out. In any case, we were able to check in four hours early and unload all the 'stuff' out of the car and into the room.
We took a nice loop drive (about 100 miles) around Mount San Jacinto and passed by/thru/via the following:
* California Highway 111
* Palm Springs (duh)
* Cathedral City
* Rancho Mirage
* Palm Desert
* California Highway 74 aka the "Pines to Palms Highway"
The Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center
* Lake Hemet
* Hurkey Creek Park
* Mountain Center
* California Highway 243 aka the "Banning-Idyllwild Scenic Highway"
* Idyllwild
* Lake Fulmer Picnic Area
* City of Banning
* South San Gorgonio Avenue
* Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility
* East Ramsey Street
* Banning Airport
* I-10
My Father-in-Law Bill had this to say about our travels/travails:

My Father-in-Law Bill had this to say about our travels/travails:
Happy you missed the earthquake and traffic jams.
I liked the view of Mount San Jacinto better than the Larry Smith Correction Facility.
I must confess that i would be nervous driving on the Rim of the World Highway.
Were you?? (Answer: No, we were not on that road)
Idyllwild is not the place for a weak knee person like me but it looks beautiful.
