We're planning on following a ...

very indirect route from Alameda to Santa Cruz tomorrow.

Leave home
to Starbucks in Alameda Towne Centre
South on I-880
South on US Hwy 101
to Gilroy
Northeast on Leavesley Road
to the Reebok & Rockport store in the Gilroy Premium Outlets
Northeast on Leavesley Rd
Southest on Ferguson Rd
Southeast on Hwy 152 aka "Pacheco Pass Hwy"
to Casa de Fruta
South on Hwy 156 aka "Pacheco Pass Hwy"
Southeast on Fairview Rd (bypassing Hollister)
Southeast on Hwy 25 aka "Airline Hwy"
past the Pinnacles National Monument
Southwest on "Kings City Hwy" which changes into "Bittersweet Rd"
to King City
to Valero for fuel
to Subway for another kind of fuel
North for a mile or two on US Hwy 101
South on Hwy G14 aka "Jolon Rd"
into Fort Hunter Liggett
West on Mission Rd
to the Mission San Antonio de Padua
East on Mission Rd
West on Nacimiento-Ferguson Rd
North on California State Route 1
Northwest on Hwy 68 aka "Holman Hwy"
to Pacific Grove
and Back Porch Fabrics
and Monarch Knitting & Quilts
North on California State Route 1

to Ocean Ave
and our destination Santa Cruz!

My rough estimate for this trip: 275 miles
The direct route would be around: 68 miles
Actual mileage: 306 miles in about nine and a half hours.
Or an average of 32 mph - not helped at all by the extremely dense fog that limited visibility to twenty-five feet along the Western half of Nacimiento-Ferguson Rd.
