Cisco Networkers, notes from AGG-2014

Session:
  AGG-2014

Session Title:
  Guest Access Design and Deployment for Wired and 802.11 Wireless LANs.

Speaker:
  Sujit Ghosh

NOTES
=====
WCS version 4.x includes "Lobby Ambassador" function.

Guest == DMZ == Anchor WLAN controller.

EoIP = Ethernet over IP Tunnel from 'core' WLAN controller(s) to Guest WLAN controller.

Guest WLAN controller should be sized based on expected bandwidth/throughput. Not on number of LWAP's connecting to it.

EoIP uses port 97.

DHCP assignment for guest traffic tunneled to the Guest WLAN controller must come from something on the guest DMZ. The Guest WLAN controller can act as a simple DHCP server.

The 3750G combination Switch and WLAN controller can act as a Guest controller.

A Guest controller can terminate 40 EoIP tunnels coming from other WLAN controllers. Nothing per SSID or LWAP.

VRF = Virtual Routing/Forwarding.

Need DNS server accessible to users on guest DMZ.

WLAN controllers can generate SNMP traps for each web-auth login attempt.

use integrated web server in Guest WLAN controller for web-auth - force the acceptance of legal disclaimer.

WLAN controller can send Syslog messages to CS-MARS.

LWAPs in lightweight mode run "mini-IOS".

Per Sujit Ghosh and Jim Whitaker of Cisco, WCS version 4.x is available for download on CCO at:
