REAP is migrating into Hybrid REAP aka HREAP. HREAP is supported on the 1130 series of LWAPs.
Do not use Layer-2 with WLAN controllers and LWAPs, use Layer-3.
The WiSM blades only support Layer-3 mode.
Ethereal has a decoder for LWAPP.
Pat Calhoun of Cisco is the author of LWAPP, working on the IETF standard CAPWAP.
WLAN Controller software version 4.x (code name Beringer) was released last Tuesday.
Changes:
PoE - can be applied globally.
QOS -
OTAP not supporteb by the 1130 series of LWAPs.
A WLAN controller can upgrafe the IOS on four LWAPs at a time.
1500 byte MTU between LWAP and WLAN controller.
Jumbo frames not supported ... yet.
The AP-Manager interface of the WLAN controller is not pingable.
The Sup720 communicates with the Sevice Port of the WiSM blade using WCP.
Must use LAG with the WiSM blades.
LAG == PortChannel == EtherChannel.
Radius traffic will be sourced from the IP address of the Management interface of the WLAN controller.
"ip verify unicast reverse path" aka "reverse path filtering" will break when used with Layer-3 mobility mode.
Each WiSM blade can be thought of as two separate & distinct WLAN controllers - each supporting up to 150 LWAPs.
WiSM is pronounced as "wise em", not "whizz em". Mispronouncing this will make the Cisco Marketing droids unhappy.
The 1130 series of LWAPs support a maximum of 8 SSIDs.
WCS version 4.x will only run on Windows Server 2003.
WCS supports role-based access control.
The WLSE blade can be/will be upgradable to a version that can be managed by WCS.
Do not install a WiSM blade (or anything else) in the 'spare' Supervisor slot in a Catalyst 65xx platform.
WCS supports up to 200 WLAN controllers with the 4.x release.
Do not follow the "Salt & Pepper" model of LWAP association. Especially for Wireless VOIP.
There is a new model of the Catalyst 3750G switch being released real-soon-now that will have an integrated WLAN controller supporting either 25 or 50 LWAPs.
Class attendance:
75% --- at the 9AM start of class
100% --- at 10AM
90% --- after lunch
75% --- after the afternoon break
50% --- at 5PM
25% --- made it thru the entire class, ending at 6PM
