A question for Karen ...

how are we related to Anna "Nancy" Towle (1796-1876) who wrote "Vicissitudes Illustrated" in 1832 ???

A snippet from Nancy Towle, "Faithful Child of God", 1796-1876:
Nancy Towle, born February 13, 1796, was the daughter of Colonel Philip Towle and Betsey Nudd Towle of Hampton, New Hampshire. The third of nine children, six girls and three boys, Towle was born in the house built by her grandfather, Ensign Philip Towle, in 1763.

And an answer from Karen (extracted from the comments below):

I'm on it! Since Philip Towle was the first immigrant, in about 1636, we can guess that Ensign Philip Towle could be a son or grandson.

Philip Towle, 1616

11th/last child: Caleb, 1678 (second son with that name - first one died in 1677 at age 16)

Caleb and his wife, Zipporah Bracket, have several children:

1st: Philip 1698 to Philip 1737 to Philip 1770 to Nancy (the preacher) 1796. Caleb is Nancy's Great-Great Grandfather.

4th: Anthony 1703 to Brackett 1744/45 to Ira 1796 to The Towle Brothers and sister, Mary Tenney Towle, who married a Robie (she was the mother of Edwin Towle Robie and grandmother of Wendell Towle Robie.) Caleb is the Towle Brothers Great-Great Grandfather, also.

6th: Matthias 1707 to Sgt. William 1740 to William 1760 to Stephen Bailey 1823 to William Henry 1844 to Wilbur Winsor/Windsor 1867 to Leland Merle 1891 to Dad to us.
Caleb is Stephen Bailey Towle's Great-Great Grandfather.

So....Nancy, the Towle Brothers, and Stephen Bailey Towle are third cousins. We are third cousins, five times removed from both Nancy and the Towle Brothers. Caleb is our seventh great grandfather.

By the way, Roger Williams, founder of Providence, Rhode Island, and defender of Indians' Rights, is our many greats grandfather, too!
