April 2004 Trip to Ukiah - Day 5

A good day in Ukiah (and Potters Valley)

We spent even more time at Archer Trucking, Inc. working on their computers.

Thanks to the generosity of John MacGregor, owner of the "Wonder Ranch" we were privileged to see Dr. Ralph Stanley & His Clinch Mountain Boys perform at a private party put on by Barbara and Castle Skip Newell at the Spotswood Performing Arts Barn in Potter Valley. WOW!

During a break in the show, I bought a CD for James Simmons: "Old-Time Songs" StanleyTone 5001. Dr. Ralph Stanley was kind enough to autograph it (for an extra $5). It was quite the merchandising operation - almost every member of the group was selling his own CD and paraphernalia.

The Clinch Mountain Boys:
Ralph Stanley II
James Alan Shelton - lead guitar
Jack Cooke - upright bass
Nathan Stanley - mandolin (Ralph's grandson)
John Rigsby - mandolin
Steve Sparkman - banjo
Todd Meade - fiddle

Other performers:
The host, Castle Skip Newell III - played the banjo.
Michelle Lambert - played the fiddle and a bit o' guitar.
