We've arrived in ...

Alexandria, LA after a long drive from Houston, TX.

Alexandria postcard - Third Street, Alexandria, LA

Woohoo for us! It's still too hot and too humid - was over a 100 degrees for most of the day.

We drove by Fort Polk (originally known as Camp Polk) on the way in to town on Highway 8 or 28 or ???.

My Father-in-Law, Bill Kelly had this to say about Polk:

I just remembered that I made two trips to Fort Polk from
San Antonio when I was a Lieutenant in the Army. It was
Camp Polk then, Fort means a permanent army post, Camp
a lesser rank and not as fancy as army bases go.

Part of our trip today was on the Texas Forest Trail.

We're staying in the Best Western - Alexandria Inn & Suites

We drove by the following places while we were looking for a place to eat dinner:
Alexandria National Cemetery
Old Town Hall Museum of Pineville
Alexandria Pineville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau
Alexandria Museum of Art

We finally ended up having pizza at Cici's. It was only so-so pizza, but the price was right: all-you-can-eat for $3.99. On the plus side, it was completely non-smoking - a real rarity in the South.

We may go to the following places tomorrow (Saturday):
Delta Music Museum
Kent Plantation House
Red Roof Quilt Shop
Alexandria Historical & Genealogical Museum
River Oaks Square Arts Center
Starbucks
